Canterbury, Melbourne Project

Our alteration project started rather abruptly and without a great deal of planning when we were fortunate enough to be recommended a very good builder. The builder, Resicon, referred us to Sally as time was of the essence and what a wonderful partner she turned out to be.

Sally was able to quickly understand what appealed to us then tapped into her own broad knowledge of colour, form and finishes to bring a unique sense of style to the project. Her attention to detail is impressive - precise measurements and ideas for cabinetry, beautifully executed mitred corners on special cushions and a perfectly designed wooden knife block in the kitchen drawer - only a few examples of what has made the finished product so beautiful. She is patient, punctual, has a well of experts in their fields to call on who carry out her requests - building furniture, making curtains and quilted bedspreads and cushions etc. etc. - with great results. Sally’s contacts in the trade made the task of choosing fabrics,  furniture and fittings so very much easier. We know that without Sally we would not have been able to achieve the end result we have and we are most grateful to her for all she has done to make our home so beautiful and comfortable.

Project - Portsea

As our new holiday home at Portsea was nearing completion there were a number of choices to be made regarding internal finishing. I knew I would find it a daunting task and was delighted when our builder introduced me to Sally.

She seemed to understand immediately what we wanted to achieve.

She has a great sense of style as well as practical hints and we were very happy with the end result.

Sally sourced and presented a few suggestions for tiling, accompanied me to choose bathroom and kitchen fittings, and by narrowing down choices for me made the task so easy.

Sally understood that we were building the home to accommodate numerous grandchildren and that we wanted the house stylish but not too precious and she accommodated that.

As a fully qualified designer I would have been happy to have her input earlier during the build as she has a great eye for detail.

I am also very happy with some subtle lighting suggestions she made.

I would recommend Sally to anyone going through the daunting process of building or renovating as her experience is helpful in avoiding mistakes that are difficult and expensive to rectify later.

Having done an earlier renovation 10 years ago, my needs had changed and I was working full time and had no time to devote to do all the research, so I needed help.

I had a few things on my list, but learned from my last renovation that staging the work was going to keep the disruption to a minimum. Sally understood that immediately and her responses were completely in-tune with that desire.

The first stage was to renovate floors in bathrooms and laundry and the bathroom benchtops, paint the hallway, and make my daughter's bedroom into a relaxing, calm room for guests. The solutions required colour, furniture and textile choices including wallpaper, which would harmonise the existing elements in the house - keeping in mind future planned changes.

Sally's choice of colour and fabrics was economical, beautiful and so matched to our style.

Sally has a terrific range of tradesmen she works with and you know she is thinking about you when she is out and about - I was happy to buy sheets for the bedroom but was quietly relieved when she rang me to say she could pick them up on her travels. I was not going to save any money doing it for myself and it saved me a lot of time shopping.

I loved working with Sally. She even recommended a wall colour for my kitchen (which I would never have chosen!) which harmonised with the colours she had introduced in the other rooms. I have since had that painted and just love how it makes my spotted gum kitchen look so earthy and beautiful.

I highly recommend Sally.

We were approaching the end of a renovation/extension and needing someone to help us with the layout of some indoor lighting. That was the beginning of a fortunate chain of events that led us to Sally. The lighting people put us in touch.

Sally’s brief began with the lighting, but very soon extended to engaging her services for every aspect of the interior design of our home. It was obvious early on that having Sally involved throughout would produce a much more sophisticated result in a lot less time and would also save us money in the long run.

We aren’t confidant or experienced decorators so it was enormously helpful to have Sally guide us. Sally really appreciated the unique nature of our home and its environs and somehow understood the approach we wanted to take. She has a remarkable design aesthetic and was able to translate our feelings and thoughts about how we wanted our place to look into something real and tangible that we now enjoy and are grateful for every single day.

Sally is really wonderful to work with.  She is a genuinely lovely person that takes a lot of pride and care in her design work; big or small. Having Sally help us made the process of decorating our home enjoyable: not stressful in any way.

I would and do recommend Sally to everyone who is considering some interior design work.

With my old apartment sold I had to get a full renovation of the ugliest 1980's decor in my newly purchased apartment completed before I had nowhere to sleep!!

I chose Sally as I loved an apartment renovation she did for a friend. Sally is the queen of clever good looking storage, just right for a "collector" like myself.

Sally started with my old apartment to get a feel for my lifestyle, personality and existing furniture and art. She viewed my new apartment and gave me a couple of concepts that incorporated my desire to open up the kitchen and study by removing walls. She helped me find the right builders and get quotes.

Sally effortlessly reflected my taste and the way I wanted to live. She made special spaces for my treasures that showed them in a new light. Re framing art gave me spectacular new things I fell in love with.

Sally is a great listener and effortlessly understood my taste and needs. Above all her attention to detail is impressive. Because she prepares detailed technical drawings mistakes made by tradesmen were corrected without problems. She also had a great rapport with everyone on site to ensure quality finishes at all times.

The experience of working with Sally was the most positive and enjoyable imaginable. With my health problems I trusted everything to her. The end result is a home I love and enjoy waking up in every day.

I have no hesitation in recommending Sally and am happy to talk to others who like me,  do not have the time or skills to design and execute a renovation. First time renovators with a desire for style and quality will find what they want with Sally.

Sally Feeney is my ‘go to’ person for any interior issue. She’s taught me the difference between ‘design’ and ‘decoration’: as a designer she creates functional, efficient, safe, comfortable and beautiful interior spaces that are cleverly designed to be fit for their purpose.

Sally herself brings particular unique gifts to her professional skills.

Firstly, she’s really good at ‘tuning in’ to the interests and style of her clients. It was a little disconcerting to have my personality ‘read’ so accurately, but it paid off with a result that reflects me in a way that feels completely natural and comfortable. It was fascinating later to watch her ‘interpret’ another client, a friend of mine, transforming her home to a place that is truly and wonderfully her. Similarly, she understood the brief for the Verandah Café at 174 Collins Street, and designed a brilliantly clever solution while giving the cafe cheerful, professional visual appeal.

Secondly, Sally is very good at finding clever ways to add class and style within budget. In particular, she has a great eye for the little details that don’t cost much, like unusual drawer knobs, striking light fittings, or a touch of unexpected colour, while cleverly managing the big costs on flooring, cabinetry, furniture, etc where she can explain what effect the different price options will produce.

Thirdly, she is just a delight to work with. She combines scrupulous professionalism and carefully itemised and accurate accounts with a sunny disposition where nothing is too much trouble and complicated difficulties are relished. In the midst of renovation dust and chaos, Sally sees the vision of what will be, and inspires the tradies to ensure the work is completed to her high standards. To have her design and project-manage all the complexities of a renovation is such a welcome relief!

If you want a professional look, then get a professional to do it; and in the interior design world, Sally Feeney is a gifted and talented professional and we in Melbourne are fortunate to have her.

project - lower plenty

We discovered Sally on Houzz and were drawn to seek her services from some of her previous projects we were able to see online.

Little did we expect to meet someone we would want to work together with for many years to come. Sally absolutely exceeded our expectations. She was attentive to how we saw our house becoming our home and was able to tailor every detail to our shared vision, and also our budget. She was never imposing, and we always felt heard and respected in our wishes. She was extremely personable, professional and communicated promptly throughout the whole process. She liaised directly with the various different tradespeople to ensure the process ran as efficiently and smoothly as possible.

The end results have spoken for themselves and we couldn’t be happier with how our home has evolved before our eyes, and we felt that Sally was as committed and passionate about the process as we were. We couldn’t recommend her highly enough, for the professionalism she brings, her incredible skill and eye for design, and her lovely engagement throughout. Thanks for making our home so beautiful Sally!

Clifton Hill Interior Renovation and Design Project

project - clifton hill

We have just completed the renovation of the rear of our 1890’s inner suburban home. Whilst we wanted to modernize the home we did not want to lose the beauty and character of the original home. When we started to look at the scope of the project it quickly became clear that we needed a major rebuild of the daily living area of the home including kitchen and pantry, bathroom and main bedroom ensuite, steam room and laundry and a very large living area. We wanted the whole project to flow from the late Victorian home at the front to the 21st Century extension at the rear without any clashing division between the old and the new.

We had worked with the builders before on previous renovations and knew they could deliver an amazing structure that blended sympathetically with the old and new. We were so fortunate to have Sally Feeney recommended by them for the design component of the project. Sally has a wonderful ability in being able to translate our often intangible ideas and thoughts into concrete designs and structures and then to blend colour schemes, floor coverings, lighting etc into a cohesive design that truly brought our ideas to reality.  Sally would combine her vast experience and knowledge of what is available and what works with how we saw our future home. She is such a good communicator and as we were project managing the build ourselves, was able to talk to the builder, trades people and us to create the home we wanted. Sally never pushed her own ideas onto our build but worked with us and the builders at every stage and level to create a great home.

The end result was a rejuvenated home that maintained the character of the original home and yet seamlessly incorporated a fabulous extension with all of our thoughts perfectly translated. Neighbours and passers by regularly comment on the beauty of the home and how it lifts their spirits to see such a home restored. We now have a home we love.
